ABOUT THE COMPANY

We are a leading marketplace for tours, activities, and attractions and are in a great spot. We aim to scale the business significantly over the next couple of years to capture market share and establish ourselves as a global leader.

Here are a few points to get you started:

We are one of Europe's biggest startup success stories, having joined an exclusive Unicorn Club in recent years.

  • We are profitable and growing quickly.
  • Our latest funding round is the highest-ever for a company in the travel experiences sector and one of the largest growth rounds for a European startup. To date, total funding stands at over $1 billion.
  • Recognized by a leading business publication as one of the most innovative companies in a recent year.
  • We are customer-obsessed, helping millions of travelers have unforgettable experiences with hundreds of millions of tickets sold.
  • Our Guiding Principles are taken very seriously!
  • We are a diverse company with over 85 nationalities represented.
  • This is only the beginning: we are ambitious and aim to emerge as the leading player in the travel experiences market, which represents a multi-hundred-billion euro opportunity (Serviceable Available Market).

That sounds great. Where is the role based?

Our headquarters are in Berlin, and this role will require you to be permanently based in Berlin. Comprehensive relocation support is provided.

If you don't live in Berlin, we have your relocation covered! More details below.

We operate a hybrid, in-person first approach. You will be expected to work from the office a minimum of three days per week.

As part of our hybrid approach, we also offer a telecommuting allowance per year, allowing you to work from anywhere in the world for a set number of working days annually.

Why do we need to hire this person?

The Comparison space at our company is becoming increasingly complex, and we need a senior design leader who can bring strategic clarity, elevate craft, and drive high-impact initiatives across the traveler experience. This person will fill critical gaps in:

Strategic thinking & product leadership: Able to maintain momentum even when the PM steps away — setting goals, defining success, understanding customer problems, and shaping the business narrative.

UX strategy & communication: Creating clear, compelling stories that align UX direction with business strategy.

Raising the bar on design craft: Improving UI/UX quality, prototyping, motion, and overall design process across the team.

Creative leadership (not people management): Taking end-to-end ownership of large initiatives and providing direction to multiple designers without requiring guidance. This role is essential for taking Comparison from early foundations to a well-defined, scalable strategic function.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Partner closely with multi-disciplinary team members — Product Design, Content Design, Product Management, Engineering, Research, and Operations, among others — to drive the business forward.
  • Work across all stages of the design process, including user research, ideation, concept development, validation, wireframing, prototyping, final visual design, and implementation support.
  • Lead and support both short-term and long-term product vision.
  • Deeply understand users and their needs through generative research and exploration.
  • Create compelling, pixel-perfect mockups and prototypes of end-to-end user experiences.
  • Conduct usability testing and iterate on designs based on user feedback.
  • Partner with Product Managers to craft systematic solutions that connect user needs, data, business goals, and strategy.
  • Partner with engineers to build impactful products and features within technical and timeline constraints.
  • Facilitate collaborative working sessions with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Champion and advance the discipline of high-quality product design within the team.
  • ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

    What are the main responsibilities?

As the lead designer for the Comparison team, you will operate at a high level across complex, ambiguous problem spaces. You will:

    • Define distinctions between key verticals (e.g., ticketed experiences vs. guided experiences) and evolve how we communicate these differences across the product.
    • Lead the UX vision for the Activity Detail Page, Booking Assistant, and our Reviews strategy.
    • Tackle high-conviction and low-conviction problem areas, shaping the approach for major unknowns (e.g., "How should a guided ADP fundamentally differ from a ticketed ADP?").
    • Drive storytelling and media innovation within verticals to better communicate the value of experiences.
    • Partner cross-functionally with data, AI engineering, research, product, and business teams to create solutions that scale.
    • Own stakeholder communication, building alignment and ensuring strategic clarity across the organization.
    • Operate as a big-picture, business-minded design leader in a fast-evolving, highly cross-functional environment.

What exciting initiatives will I lead?

This role offers the chance to shape some of the most impactful, future-focused work in the traveler experience:

    • Reimagining how we differentiate guided vs. ticketed experiences, redefining how travelers understand and evaluate our offerings.
    • Launching a new data model that tailors decision-making elements based on vertical and context (adventure tours, shows & events, etc.).
    • Collaborating on data- and AI-driven frameworks, experimenting with new methods for training models that power automated, personalized UX.
    • Partnering with research and engineering on complex decision surfaces that help travelers book confidently and quickly.

These initiatives sit at the intersection of UX, data, AI, storytelling, and strategic business direction — a genuinely unique design opportunity.

Who are some of the key people I will be working and interacting with regularly?

Your work will be highly visible across the organization.

    You will collaborate closely with:

    • Hiring Manager
    • VP of UX
    • Directors: Director of Product & Director of Engineering
    • Cross-functional leaders across Traveler, Supplier, Data, AI Engineering, and Research
    • C-level exposure for major initiatives and strategic updates
    • Regular leadership of a key strategic ritual — presenting direction to the entire Traveler organization and directors from across the business
    • Close alignment with a Co-Founder, due to the deep relationship between Comparison and Supplier systems

What are some of the big selling points for this role?

    • Build a brand-new team from 0 → 1 — shape the vision, culture, and craft standards from the ground up.
    • Massive product and business impact: Comparison is a key strategic pillar for the future of the company.
    • High autonomy & ownership: You will lead some of our most complex initiatives with significant creative freedom.
    • Cross-functional visibility with directors and occasional C-level stakeholders.
    • Blend of UX, strategy, and innovation: Ideal for senior designers who thrive at the intersection of systems thinking, storytelling, and product strategy.
    • Work on problems few travel companies have solved, especially in automated decision-making and differentiated vertical experiences.
    PERKS
    • Annual personal growth budget and mentorship programs for continuous learning and development
    • Work from anywhere in the world for 30 days per year
    • A hybrid working approach with three days of in-office collaboration and two days of optional at-home focus time
    • Opportunities to collaborate and socialize with team members through regular team and company-wide events
    • Monthly transportation and fitness budget
    • Employee discounts on leisure and travel activities
    • Language reimbursement program
    • Health and wellness benefits
